The Acute Knee Injury Clinic is a rapid-access assessment service for individuals with recent knee injuries. We provide expert clinical evaluation, early diagnosis, clear treatment recommendations, and guidance on appropriate next steps, including referral when required.

Local orthopaedic surgeons and physicians identified a gap in early assessment and triage of acute knee injuries. The AKIC was developed to provide timely expert evaluation and help patients access the right care without unnecessary delay.

The AKIC is appropriate for anyone with an acute knee injury (less than 6 weeks) who would benefit from early expert assessment and guidance.

No. The AKIC is for individuals of all ages and activity levels. Whether your injury occurred during sport, work, or daily activity, our role is to assess the injury and guide the most appropriate care pathway.
Referrals and Appointments

No. A physician’s referral is not required. Patients may self-refer directly to the Acute Knee Injury Clinic. Referrals from physicians and other healthcare providers are also welcome.

Our goal is to provide assessment within 14 days of initial contact, whenever possible.

A weight-bearing knee X-ray is helpful when available, but imaging is not required to book an assessment. Our clinicians will guide further imaging recommendations if needed.
Location and Scheduling

Our main clinic is at Physiomoves Physiotherapy Clinic in Surrey, BC.

All physiotherapy appointments are offered Monday - Thursday. Please contact our office at 604-575-7477 for more details regarding booking these appointments.

We use state-of-the-art equipment to assess strength, movement quality, symmetry, using validated protocols along with clinical experience.

While the majority of our programs are offered locally, we do currently offer remote virtual consultations, as well as virtual access to your own personalized rehab program. Please contact us for more details.

Cost and Insurance

Yes, physiotherapy visits can often be claimed under extended health benefits. Please contact us for more details.

The cost for the rapid access is $145 which includes physiotherapy assessment, referral recommendations, and a personalized treatment plan.

Your appointment includes a detailed history, thorough physical examination, and review of available imaging. You will leave with a clear understanding of your injury and recommended next steps.

In most cases, we can provide a clear clinical diagnosis or working diagnosis, along with appropriate management recommendations.

Depending on your presentation, recommendations may include:
Conservative management (e.g., physiotherapy)
Further imaging
Referral to a sports medicine physician or orthopaedic surgeon, when indicated

Most acute knee injuries respond very well to conservative care. Surgical consultation is recommended only when clinically necessary.
